About 254 Biz

Bite-size business news for Central Texas, built from public records.

254 Biz covers business across the 254 area code (Waco, Temple, Killeen, Belton, Stephenville, Gatesville and the towns between) plus all of Williamson and Travis counties. We read the records most people never see: state construction filings, new sales tax permits, new company charters, liquor licenses, sales tax allocations, drink sales and layoff notices. Then we turn them into short, useful news.

How we work

• Every fact comes from a public record we pulled, and sources are listed at the bottom of every piece.
• We don't invent quotes, numbers or explanations. When the records don't explain something, we say so.
• We leave out private individuals' names and home addresses.
• Other outlets' reporting is used for tips only, and always linked and credited.
• Paid content is always labeled and never mixed into news. See Advertise.

Ownership and disclosure

254 Biz is independently owned and based in Clifton, Texas. Its owner also owns J&J Technical Services, a low-voltage contractor that advertises on 254 Biz. J&J ads are labeled like every other ad, and if we ever report on J&J, we'll say so in the story.
